Lollypop Farm

This is an uncertain time we are living in. Many parents are out there juggling full-time jobs while homeschooling their children. Others have lost valuable resources they’ve relied upon in their community. At Lollypop Farm, we’ve had to cancel events and programs you and I both were looking forward to. It’s still unclear how many more this pandemic will affect. But one thing I know for certain, we will get through this together.

Below are a few resources to help you. Your child will love these activities and they’ll be learning things like responsible pet care, dog bite prevention, and treating all living things with a humane and compassionate heart. And make sure you are following us on Facebook! We’ll be sharing some fun online events soon that your child is sure to love!

Pig Belly Rubs

Virtual Potbellied Pig Belly Rubs

Thursday, March 26th, 2:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

Have you always wanted to spend some quality time with a potbellied pig at Lollypop Farm? Now’s your chance, and you can do it from the comfort of your couch!

Tune in at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, for Virtual Potbellied Pig Belly Rubs at Lollypop Farm! We'll be going live on the Lollypop Farm Facebook page with our Farm Manager Joanna and Humane Education Manager Kim (at a safe distance, of course), and a number of adorable potbellied pig friends. Viewers will learn about pig behavior, diets, and care, explore why so many homeless pigs are brought to the shelter, and debunk myths about “mini” or “micro” pigs.

Art Show

Be Kind to Animals Art Show—Now Digital!

Entries must be received by Friday, April 17th

Be Kind to Animals Week, May 3rd-9th, is just around the corner, and Lollypop Farm needs your help to celebrate! Kids, kindergarten through 12th grade, are invited to get creative and help us spread the word about being kind to pets in our community. Submit a photo (.jpg, .png, or .pdf) of your child’s artwork and they will be displayed in a digital library and on social media during Be Kind to Animals Week. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Compassionate Investigators in Training

Compassionate Investigators in Training

Heart (Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers) has great resources and activities that are fun AND teach social responsibility. We especially love the Compassionate Investigators in Training Game! Your child will have fun hunting for clues and learning about issues related to puppy mills and caring for their animal companions.

Interactive Lessons from Heart

Interactive Lessons from Heart

Heart (Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers) also has digital lesson plans! These classroom tools will really come in handy and feature a variety of interactive lessons aligned to state curriculum standards related to animal protection, social justice, and environmental conservation themes.

Scholastic Resources

Scholastic Resources

On week 2 of homeschooling and not sure what to do? Check out these lesson plans from Scholastic! They have fun topics like Hey, Human: Are dogs’ facial expressions trying to tell us something? and more! (Spoiler alert: YES!) Find out what with your child at Scholastic Science World!

SAFE: Dog Bite Prevention

SAFE: Dog Bite Prevention

SAFE is a fun and easy way to talk to children about dog bite prevention. SAFE has four simple steps that can be played as a game. These tools will help them be safer around the dogs they know and the dogs they don’t.

Coloring Sheets

And if all else fails...COLORING SHEETS!

It’s tried and true! (And it might buy you a couple of quiet moments.) These coloring sheets from Liz Climo are cute and your child will enjoy the time to be creative. Just make sure you snap a photo and share them with us!
